A note from Chief Smuggler, Linny
There’s been some historic moments in the history of Budgy Smuggler… from the crowning of Dingo Dan as Australia’s Most Ordinary Rig in 2016 to being named the most hated item of clothing in the UK in 2018… but the moment of 2024 surely belongs to great town (we’re gonna call it a city) of Newcastle.
This is our first permanent store outside of Sydney and we are so stoked with the turn out. Some highlights include…

The store itself just looked epic. Shout outs to Liz at Studio Mae for the concept and Mitch / Adrian / all the lads at After Dark who flogged it to get the store launched on time.
It feels like people love to heap sh*t on Westfield but all of the team we’ve worked with have been an absolute delight… Cecelia, Katie, Elliot, all of the security and team on the ground in Newy were so helpful. Thank you.
The superstars NRLW players Yasmin, Caitlan, Olivia Sheridan for helping to officially open the store & generally being all round legends.
Our own team, Millie D who led the charge, Milly M in her early work, the back up from Ellie, Macy, Tom, C and all the local Newy Team. So proud of your efforts!
Our Boardshort Buy Back Scheme which saw hundreds of Boardshorts (Curtains of Shame) swapped for Smugglers. These will be recycled and repurposed through UpApparel so we can keep Freeing the Thighs of Newcastle.
And most importantly, all of you, our smuggling community who turned up in droves and saw a line out the door for most of the weekend. Thank you.
